Skin care from your Herb garden – The Physic Garden

I love the idea of your Herb Garden providing for you – not just your veggie’s, but in a medicinal and healing way too.

Charelle Founder of The Physic Garden, has bought her knowledge of Naturopathy (and being brought up in a household, where her parent sold their own herbal products), and created the most beautiful balms and salts.

I’ve always been drawn to natural products, but since the twins were born, it’s all we ever use as a family.

One of the most interesting parts of choosing natural products, either that you’ve made yourself or have bought, is that on most occasions it works to the same standard as the chemical product, or better.

Deodorant was probably one of the last chemical products I used. I was nervous about going down the natural route, as no one likes being smelly!

But I’m happy to say I’ll never go back now.

Finding a good deodorant that works for you, is a bit of trial and error – and your body (well mine certainly did) might go through a small detox period while it gets used to it.

I had an ex boyfriend once who never wore deodorant, he never even started in his youth – and I can say hand on heart that he never smelt, and he worked outside in jobs that should produce even a mildest of pongs!

Your body gets used to what we put on it, and stops doing it’s job. Same goes for washing your hair >>here<< is an article on my experience with the ‘No Poo method’.

Relax Me Deodorant –

Shea Butter*, Bi-Carb Soda, Arrowroot Powder*, Olive Oil Infused with Chamomile & Calendula, Candelilla Wax, Essential Oils (Lavender & May Chang) (*Organic Ingredients)

Shea Butter Organic & high in Vitamin E, it moisturises skin & glides on like butter.

Bi-Carb Soda – Alkalises skin pH which stops bacterial growth & odour. We use Bi-carb soda which is sourced from natural deposits, and does not contain any aluminium.

Arrowroot Powder – A natural root vegetable that absorbs moisture and helps keep you dry.

Chamomile & Lavender Soothing scents.

CalendulaNaturally anti-bacterial

This deodorant really works! It keeps me smell free all day, even when I go to the gym.

All you need is a small pea sized amount on your finger, and then rub it into your underarm. You’re basically moisturising as well as deodorising.

The only down side to these type of Butter deodorants, is that men find them harder to use with their hairy armpits.

Sleep Balm –

Olive Oil infused with Lemon Balm* & Chamomile*, Shea Butter*, Candelilla wax, Essential oils (Lavender & Lemon Myrtle) (*Organic Ingredients)

Shea Butter – Organic & high in Vitamin E, it moisturises skin & glides on like butter.

Chamomile, Lemon Balm & Lavender Provide a gentle, peaceful scent and skin soothing properties.

Lemon Myrtle – A native Australian herb with a lemon scent. Smells amazing!!

The kids had been quite sick recently with head colds, and getting them to settle is harder on those nights. We used the Sleep Balm on their backs and the Eucalyptus rub on their chests.

It’s hard to tell if it was the Balm that helped them settle, but it did seem a little easier.

I’ve worn it myself on my chest while sleeping, and it’s undeniable the smell of Lavender and Chamomile is so relaxing.

Eucalyptus Rub –

Shea Butter*, Olive Oil Infused with Elder Flower, Essential Oil (Eucalyptus, White Camphor, Peppermint & Rosemary), Candelilla Wax (*Organic Ingredients)

Shea Butter – Organic & high in Vitamin E, it moisturises skin & glides on like butter.

Eucalyptus, Peppermint & White Camphor Smell amazing & keep you feeling clear.

Rosemary – Also smells incredible & is naturally anti-bacterial

As I said above the kids have been ill recently, and blocked noses are not fun while trying to sleep.

Vicks is a leading brand of vapour rubs, and I can’t deny that it works.

But on the few occasions that our two have used it, they haven’t liked it. For one it makes their chests really cold, and it’s so slimy and sticky that their vests and Pj’s stick to it. They’ve even asked for it to be rubbed off!

So yes it might well help clear their noses while they settle, but if they’re unsettled due to being so uncomfortable – whats the point!?

The Physic Garden Eucalyptus Rub does none of this – apart from clear the nose.

Charelle has made some beautiful products, and I’m looking forward to trying more. Here is a collection of her yummy Instagram photos.
